Potin Temple & Ngong Ping Cable Car
My HK travel was excellent. I visited a lot of famous places.
First, I visited the Giant Budda. However, I reached Ngong Ping cable car station, it did not work because of the thunderstorm. I was hugely disappointed I could not take the longest cable car. I expected it very much. My friend and I were in panic for a while but we changed our plan quickly, we took a bus to the Porin Temple to see Tiantan Giant Budda. The bus took about an hour. As the bus got there, the sky cleared! It was like a miracle. As soon as I got down from the bus, I was able to see the Giant Budda. It was really great! I got into the Porin Temple and had some vegetarian meals in temple restaurant. After the late lunch, we walked up the stairs to the Budda which stairs was more than 250. It may be similar to 4th ot 5th buildings floors.
Climbing the stairs was little hard, but the sight near to the Giant Budda was wonderful. There was a little museum in the Giant budda, it was 3rd floors. They exhibited some pictures and some historical datas about the Budda. I would have regretted if I did not climb the stairs.
We came down from the temple to go back to the MTR station. Then, the weather got better, the cable car operated again. In addition, people were few because of the bad weather. We took Ngong Ping 360 cable car with 2 more people including us. We did not pay private fee, but it was like a private cabin. The other 2 people were grace Chinese mom and daughter. We took photos each other and had short conversation by English. It was good experience.
We got our luggage back from the MTR station and headed to our hotel. We heard our hotel was near to the station, however, it was difficult to find our hotel at night. We asked a pedestrian the location of the hotel, he stopped to go his way and walked with us to our hotel. He was a normal salary man with packed dinner, he willingly helped us. It gave me a good impression for HK people. Our hotel was located in a narrow side street. It was near to the MTR station, the way was little confusing. After accustomizing the location, we realized its location was very good, but first finding was difficult.
After unpacking our luggages, we found some local restaurant. Although kind reception staff recommended some restaurant. She talked frankly, where was the natives went or not. She informed us that some restaurants in our guidebook became worse than before because of many visitors. As she recommended new good local restaurant, we could not find there. Instead, we got to a restaurant near by the hotel. There were no travellers, instead many natives. They handed us Chinese menu, so we were confused. Kind waiter gave us a picture menu. We still did not know what to order. So, we asked the waiter, who was good at English, to recommend us a good menu. He suggested us three famous kinds menus. We refused his recommendation because three dishes were too much. However, he strongly suggested us and we accepted them constrainedly. He said, “The dishes were small, so three dishes should be suitable for 2 women. And these combination was great. A lot of people like these. Maybe you would like them.” His words were right.
The amount of the food was enough for us and they were really delicious! The other joy was that the three dishes were all famous food in Hongkong: Cantonese congee, Wantang and Fried noodle. We tasted the famous food without a effort. We were really happy and thanked to him very much.
After the late dinner, we looked around there, we got to the Western market. It was like Dongdaemoon market. They also sold some fabrics. But, the time we got there was too late, all shops were closed.
