Grandma Kim Bok-dong passed away on January 28, 2019.
Kim Bok-dong is a former sex slave for the Japanese military during World War II. Japan does not admit their fault and does not apolize. Japan is killing the victims twice that they said in the media as the victims were voluntarily selling their bodies. I am angry that the Japanese forces have forced the young girls to do bad things, and play the media instead of reflection.
Japan is a powerful country and there are not many things that people without power can do. It just makes a small voice. Some people made films and animations.
You can easily understand the atrocities of the Japanese military when you see the animation of director Kim Jun-ki.
Grandma Kim Bok-dong was not a director and was just one of the surviving victims, but she was not quiet. She learned English when she was old and voiced for the victims. She lived as a human rights activist. Her wish was simple. "If Japan apologizes before I die, I will live comfortably for the rest of the day.".
However, she did not receive the apology. Her testimony was, "I want you to fight to the end to solve the comfort women of the Japanese military", "Please do your best to support the Joseon school in Japan".
It is sad that Japan did not apologize, even though it was over 70 years before a 16 - year - old girl became a 92 - year - old grandmother.
Grandma Kim's funeral is held as 'Citizen funeral ceremony'. 'Citizen funeral' is a form of public funeral. It is to honor the person who receives the respect of the citizen and leaves a remarkable achievement in the development of the country or the region. A street march to honor Grandma Kim Bok-dong will be held on January 30 from the Seoul Plaza to march to the Japanese Embassy. Even when she was alive, she made a voice by the Girl Statue in front of the Japanese Embassy, and she died and finally goes there again.
